About

In the summer of 2015, Derek and Susan Ahl purchased 11 acres of farmland in Southern Maine. The property had been in the same family for many generations but had been vacant for a number of years. The previous owners raised prize-winning cattle and kept horses. They operated a feed store and sold hay. The sweet little New Englander style farmhouse dates to the 1880s. The original barns are gone, replaced in the 1990s by a feed store, grain storage garage, cattle barn, horse barn and run-in. We are grateful for an opportunity to be stewards of such beautiful and historical land.

Our dream is to renovate the feed store and grain garage into our offices and flexible classroom space for The Mainspring Center–a community space for personal and professional development. The land will host community garden beds, a teaching garden for creating pollinator habitat in a suburban setting, a labyrinth, and trails for walking and cross-country skiing. It’s happening!

The land also gives us opportunity to live more holistically, grounded by eating seasonally and raising our meat and eggs. We look for opportunities to learn together, to barter and to share with our community as we invite you to be a part of this dream we have.

Welcome to Reverie!

  2. Hi Buz! Thanks for visiting here. It’s always nice to see Mary at BMFS where Andy is in fifth grade. Griff has graduated, so we won’t see you at games! I may have to borrow your cats to show my spoiled critters how it’s done. Keep in touch.
